Morning Writing Workshop

This morning Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger lead attendees in an early bird writing workshop revolving around personification.

We got up moved around wiggled and stomped our feet a bit - and a good time was had by all!

  1. Embarrassed
Dark as the starless midnight sky
    Head tilted south
    Hands fan-spread shielding face
    Grazing, age-old elephant
    Not bellowing cheers of confidence
Instead, lifelessly planted in cemented thought.

    Defeated

Dark grey, a cloud ready to storm
Not sitting on the edge of his seat
    answering the next question
slouched down, his tail between his legs
    Instead wishing he was someone
    else, some place else.

    "Stuck"

    Sitting at a desk
    Bent over paper
    One hand clutching a pencil
    The other scratching scattered hair
Looking like a jack russell terrier
Head buried in a rabbit hole
Hind legs scratching to get out
Or maybe to get deeper in
A quivering ball of black and white energy
    Directionless, yet never stationary.

  4. "Anxious"
Sweating while the movement of her feet was light
    Green as sickness
    Looking around breathing heavily
Like a cat backed into a corner
Not standing tall, talking loud, not seen
Instead tucked away like a Good Dress in a attic.

    Happy

    Smiling with hands raised up.
Her hair was shaking and bouncing all over the place.
Swimming and clapping like a dolphin in the ocean.
Red like a bouquet of red roses.
She wasn't crying with her head down.
Instead she was standing tall feeling proud of herself.

  6. Bubbly
    Washed away in happiness
    Wiggling fingers, dancing, pattering toes
Fluttering about, a seagull in search of prey
    Vibrant blue ocean
    Not submersed in despaired
    Bubbly.

  7. Fed up

Standing, a warrior in plain sight
Unable to retreat the final fight
Abuse then torture tightening in the ruff
Tomorrow this world or the next, today she's had enough.

    Carefree

Yellow like the sun, beaming on the cool river. Smiling as people cheered, leaning forward, not shy and timid. Like a monkey swinging from tree to tree making giggling sounds. Strutting with his hands curled back.

  9. Y-not?

    He would not quit.
Blurry eyed and sluggish he ambles in.
A limp blue towel is thrust his way
Like a big brown bear he lumbars past the humming machine
Shiny spandex, bouncing ponytails, tight thighs
The foggy grey of sleepiness clears
another chance to regain his old self.
