Hi, I'm Peggy Semingson. I'm excited to be here! I attended a Heinemann workshop with Jeff Wilhelm in 2003 and loved it! I am a literacy educator at UT Arlington (DFW Metroplex). I created a very short intro video here where I discuss what I like and do with new literacies. My literacy blog is here: . My YouTube channel is here. I am also an avid Facebook-er. I found out about this conference on Facebook!
Hi Peggy! Great intro video! You inspire other teachers to grab on to technology to improve their own teaching practices and their own personal growth! Well done! Cherie Bartlett, Off-Site Event Manager

ReplyDeleteHi, Peggy. Vicki Boyd here, Director of Professional Development Services at Heinemann. Thanks for introducing yourself via vlog. You are already a model for how to use new literacies in the teaching-learning process!
ReplyDeleteI was struck by your comment that we can't make assumptions students are always expert with new technologies like digital video editing. This resonates with my own experience. While adolescents tend to have more online experience than we adults, I find their skill depth is sometimes not terribly sophisticated. We all have plenty to learn together.
I'd love to hear more about your video conferencing experiences. We have limited experience using video conferencing to support professional development here at Heinemann but are beginning to explore this platform more seriously. You may already be aware that we have been using a webinar platform to provide online learning this year. While our webinars have been very well received, we hope to find a platform that more closely resembles a face-to-face learning experience. When and how did you use video conferencing?
Hi, Vicki, I will write you an email, but I use Adobe Connect and love it! It's very user friendly. It's very interactive. You can do video, audio for speakers and participants, and also many other "real time" interactions such as presentations, discussions, and whiteboards. --Peggy
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if Mrs Beers' PowerPoint was going to be uploaded? I would like a list of the web 2.0 tools that she had. Thanks
